I'm meeting with Skyla this morning in a conference room at her hotel in Nashville. She's agreed to meet with me early to talk about what's she's been doing this year. She doesn't have long to speak because of rehearsals for her overseas tour. Even early in the morning, Skyla is bouncy, ball of energy. Her smile lights up the room. She's that person that walks into a room and you want to meet and become friends. Her warmth just radiates throughout the room.

[Kelly Dunn] Good morning!
[Skyl a] It's early!
[Kelly Dunn] You're probably more of a night owl...
[Skyla Spencer] Yeah, I go to work late at night! But it's ok, I'm really happy to be here talking with you today!
[Kelly Dunn] Where have you been playing this year?
[Skyla Spencer] I've played all along the East Coast this year. I performed at Fan Fair, or the CMA Fair, in Nashville and that was fantastic. I was really honored to be there among so many of my peers, family, friends and fans. There's nothing else like it!
[Kelly Dunn] You've got a great name!
[Skyla Spencer] Thanks! I really like it, it's unique.
[Kelly Dunn] How long have you been songwriting?
[Skyla Spencer] I've been here in Nashville for six years now so
[Kelly Dunn] Do you re-write a lot?
[Skyla Spencer] Some songs I put I get so far and then I have to stick them away for awhile and then come back to it.
[Kelly Dunn] I hear you are with a new agency?
[Skyla Spencer] I'm with Red Ridge Entertainment. They have been doing a great job!
[Kelly Dunn] Are some of your gigs booked far in advance?
[Skyla Spencer] I'd say most of the gigs are booked at least a year in advance but some are last minute gigs. I know it's a lot of work.
[Kelly Dunn] What about this appearance you made at your elementary school?
[Skyla Spencer] Oh yes! It was very nice! The name of my school is French Creek Elementary School in Buckhannon, West Virginia. I was ask to stop by and talk to the students. The word of the day was, caring. So I came and spoke to them about caring for each other is important. I also spoke about the importance of education. I performed a couple different songs that talked about praying and caring for each other. I also taught them how to line-dance. After I graduated college West Virginia University I've incorporated dancing into my shows.
[Kelly Dunn] You've written a song that you've dedicated to the troops?
[Skyla Spencer] Yes, song is title, "If I Were Rain". I've dedicated this song to the soldiers in Iraq and all over the world. It's a ballad about peace. For me it's very emotional, the lyrics I believe are very moving and hopefully the troops will like it...
[Kelly Dunn] I hear you are also going oversees to entertain the troops?
[Skyla Spencer] I begin my armed forces tour from November 29th to December 21st. I'll be performing at military bases in Japan, Guam and Singapore. I'll be doing fourteen shows during three weeks. I can't wait to get over there and perform! Our troops sacrifice so much for and I hope I can bring a smile to their faces.
[Kelly Dunn] We'll have to talk more when you get back to the States, ok?
[Skyla Spencer] I'd love too; I'll so much more to talk about when I get back! Tell everyone at SongwriterPro to keep on writing and reaching for the stars!
